How to do Janmashtami decoration at home?
Decorating your home space beautifully on the auspicious day of Janmashtami is going to make your celebrations even more religious. Given below are a few themes that you can decorate your place with home decor items on this holy festival:
- Vrindavan: You can set up a tiny Vrindavan scenario during Janmashtami in your temple with cows, houses, trees, swigs, and people. Dress up any children you may have in your home as young Krishna and gopis. You can then also make the Bal Krishna sit in a basket and have the celebration of Nandoutsav.
- Radha Krishna's Rasleela: The love story between Radha and Krishna endures forever. So what's holding you back from attending this year's Janmashtami festival in the color of love? The Vrindavan Ras-Leela can also be imitated. Put lovely clothes and flowers on your Radha Krishna idol.
- Floral: Why not adorn the temples with floral decorations as "Phoolon ki Holi" is a crucial part of Lord Krishna's tale? You can use marigold, rose, and other vividly colored flowers. Marigolds are recommended as decorations because they bring radiance and a pleasant freshness to the area. On the walls of the temple, marigold garlands can be hung. You may also use flower petals to create a rangoli.
- Govardhan Parvat: The widely accepted myth states that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Parvat with his finger. Challenge your artistic abilities with this Janmashtami and recreate the stage in your temple as well. All that is needed is to create a hill out of cardboard or thermocol sheets and place it on the finger of your Krishna figure. To put under the slope, you can also make or buy some human figurines.
- Makhan Matki: We all understand that Lord Krishna adores makhan also known as butter, hence Janmashtami celebrations must include it. A matki (pot) should be painted in several vivid colors. Glitter and glass can also be used to decorate it. You can either make your bansuri at home or buy one. After the matki has been filled with makhan, place it in your temple.

How to do Krishna Janmashtami puja at home?
Given below are the steps that you need to follow for performing Krishna puja at home:- Firstly, before doing the puja, take a bath and apply gopi Chandan (mud of Vrindavan) or ashwagandha (sandalwood) to your forehead.
- On a spotless table or surface, spread out a white cotton cloth. A Lord Krishna painting or image must be placed in the middle of the altar in a sizable, deep container. Set up a puja thali with flowers, an incense burner, an aarti lamp, kumkum powder, and sandalwood paste.
- Add more flowers, the second plate of sattvic meals and fruit, and some water. Place a diya (light) made of ghee, also known as clarified butter or sesame oil there.
- Once everything is ready, you perform shaman by taking a spoon in your left hand, drizzling water over your right hand, chanting "Om achyutaya Namaha," and quietly drinking the liquid. Drink additional water while chanting "Om anantaya namaha." "Om Govindaya Namaha" is the final incantation. After drinking, wash both hands with water, and then dry them.
- While bathing the Deity with milk, ghee, orange juice, flowers, and plain water, recite the Brahma Samhita and other mantras and shlokas from the Vedas, Puranas, and Upanishads. Put the bowl aside and dry the murti. After the abhishekam (the bath), place the food, flowers, water, and ghee diya close to him.
- The next step is to apply sandalwood paste to the statue of Lord Krishna. Light the diya and begin the shubham karoti kalyanam prayer. Then chant whichever Lord Krishna bhajan or puja mantra you like and offer an incense stick seven times in a clockwise, circular motion after saying "gurur Brahma gurur Vishnu." Then, offer the chamara wisk to frighten away flies and the aarti candle with 1 or 5 wicks so that the Lord could be at ease.
- Put a small amount of kumkum at the feet of Lord Krishna, apply a tilak to your forehead, and then give the remaining kumkum as prasad to other devotees. Applying the provided kumkum to others serves as a conduit for Lord Krishna's blessings because it has been accepted and blessed by the Lord. Tilak is also utilized to open, stimulate, and defend the adnya chakra, as well as to cleanse and sanctify the body. Blow the conch shell to conclude the worship ritual and to seek pardon for any errors made during the Archana, wrongdoings, or omissions made throughout the puja.
- The fruits, water, naivedyas, flowers, and rice offerings can be left there for God to enjoy for a while, and then you can either consume them as prasad, submerge them in running water, or give them away to others. You can now offer prayers to God.
- After the puja, you can perform a Jaap meditation while chanting "Hare Krishna" or "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya".
